"At least 34 people including women and children were killed and over 100 others injured when a fire sparked in old part of Dhaka," ATN Bangla television channel said.

The fire was started by an explosion in an electrical transformer at 10.30 p.m. (1630 GMT), and then spread to residential and commercial buildings, the TV report said.
