“As a result of prompt follow-up with the Israeli authorities, the Foreign Ministry managed to obtain a list of the seized Jordanian and other passports,” Jordan’s Minister of State for Media Affairs Nabil Sharif was quoted as saying by the official Petra news agency.

The passports list, which belonged to seven Jordanians and other activists from Oman, Pakistan, Indonesia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Morocco and Algeria, was delivered to the Jordanian embassy in Israel, he added.

Sharif did not set a date for receiving the passports but said the documents “will be handed over to Jordan later on.”

He said that the Jordanian embassy in Israel would continue efforts with the concerned Israeli authorities to decide the fate of two more Jordanian passports which were still missing.

“Passports are documents protected by international law and should not be confiscated for any reason,” Sharif said.

The chairman of Jordan’s Trade Union Council, Ahmad Armouti, on Sunday warned Israel against using the nine Jordanian passports in espionage activities as it did during the assassination of the Hamas commander Mahmoud Mabhouh in Dubai early in January.

According to Dubai police, Israeli intelligence agents used stolen passports of persons from several countries to kill Mabhouh at a Dubai hotel.

Since the fatal boarding of the Freedom Flotilla ships in the Mediterranean last Tuesday, Israel expelled a total of 132 activists to Jordan, including 24 Jordanians.
