"Egyptian authorities allowed us to cross into Gaza in solidarity with Palestinians there, but they held back the aid intended to break the blockade and help rebuild the Strip," Brotherhood parliamentarian Mohamed Beltagy said.

The lawmakers, two of whom belonged to Egypt's opposition Karama Party, were granted a 24-hour stay in Gaza.

The delegation arrived in the strip to show solidarity to besieged Palestinians.

The delegation includes 12 MPs of different political backgrounds. The delegation was received by senior Hamas officials at the border along with deputies of the Hamas bloc in the Palestinian Legislative Council.

News reports on Monday said a convoy loaded with construction materials was scheduled to enter the Gaza Strip. The convoy was, however, seized by Egyptian security men.

Hazim Farouq, head of the delegation, said the authorities seized the trucks and revoked the drivers' licenses after threatening to arrest them 20 km from Gaza.
