This was announced late Thursday evening by Anant Kalse, the principal secretary of Legislative Council of Maharashtra. Kalse declared Vijay Darda and Avinash Pande (both Congress), Tariq Anwar and Ishwarlal Jain, both from the Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP), Piyush Goyal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena(SS) as elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.

June 10 was the last day for withdrawal. The polls were schedule to be held on June 17. But the lone Congress dummy Kanhaiyalal Gidwani withdrew his nomination papers on the last day. This led to all the six remaining candidates elected unopposed.

In another development, the Congress-NCP alliance bagged six out of the 10 seats in the Legislative Council polls results for which were also announced late this evening. As expected, both the parties bagged three seats each.

Sanjay Dutt, Dipti Choudhary and Hussain Dalwai from the Congress and Ramraje Nimbalkar, a former minister, Vinayak Mete and Prakash Binsale from the NCP were victorious in the polls, while Divakar Raote and Anil Parab (Shiv Sena) and Shobatai Phadnis and Dhananjay Munde (BJP) were also elected.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's strategy to field Vijay Sawant, a Congress supported independent candidate, failed as Sawant was defeated in the polls.
