Zhou Yezhong’s killing spree in a village in the eastern province of Jiangxi on May 8 was one of a series of violent attacks, several of them against children that have shocked China in recent months. Zhou, 36, was convicted of willful murder and sentenced at a court in Jiangxi, court spokesman Long Xiaomao said in comments reported by the Xinhua news agency. Long said Zhou had gambling problems and began his bloody rampage after a fight with his wife.
