No one was injured in the blaze,  which firefighters stopped from reaching nearby plastic and oil factories, according to Maj. Khaled Al-Johani, spokesman for Madinah Civil Defense.

A prisoner, meanwhile, suffered light burns at another fire in a jail in Badr in Madinah province on Thursday night.

The fire broke out in a toilet and the building was evacuated. Al-Johani said four Civil Defense units attended the blaze and that investigations are under way to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Offices at the Ibn Qayyim Intermediate School in the Al-Mahad governorate were also gutted in a blaze in the early hours of Friday.

The fire was contained before it could spread to other parts of the school. Police are investigating whether the fire was deliberate.
