The Ministry of Education said schools are prepared to receive students and that spacious halls have been assigned for the tests. Over 11,000 invigilators will supervise exams at government and private schools.

The invigilators will report violations to the regional offices of the Department of Education.

Final exams are no longer as tough as they used to be following the introduction of a new system that evaluates pupils throughout the school year. The results of the final exams only make up 30 percent of the students’ final grades.

About 2.3 million elementary students have already finished their final exams but will continue to go to school until June 30 following instructions from the Ministry of Education, a move that has attracted much criticism and disrupted holiday plans for many people.

The ministry said results would be announced in a record time this year due to changes in the way papers are marked. Results used to come out nearly a week after the exams.

In Jeddah, about 270,000 male and female students will be taking their exams in the more than 700 schools across the city.

Director of the city’s Traffic Police, Col. Muhammad Al-Qahtani, said 260 traffic patrols will be deployed near schools and along roads leading to them to organize traffic and prevent any violations.

Preparations have been made to monitor areas around schools to prevent students from joy riding, thefts and fights. They warned that joy riders and anyone who harasses students would be punished severely.
