“The new location for the school identified by the management is very far from the city center, which will create logistics problems for many families,” said parent Syed Mahmood Ali.

The school management is planning to build a new campus in preparation for the expected rise in the number of students. According to sources, the school in Sulaimaniah is already at maximum capacity, so a larger campus is needed.

Parents, however, are advocating for expanding capacity at the current campus by adding extra floors to the buildings.

Ghulam Safdar, the outgoing chairman of the school, said parents had been given time by the embassy to find an alternative location, but as of yet no such alternatives have been tabled.

Ghazala Parveen, a mother, said working parents spend a great deal of time shuttling their kids to and from school and that the new location will simply add to that commuting time.

Furthermore, she pointed out that many families cannot afford to hire drivers. The school has over 8,000 students.
