- JEDDAH: Saudi shares ended little changed, with petrochemical stocks offsetting declines in heavyweight banking and telecom stocks after US oil prices closed higher for a second week in a row.
The Tadawul All-Share Index (TASI) closed just 0.01 percent down at 6,346 points. Six of the 15 sectors closed with positive gains, which ranged from 0.21 percent in the Real Estate Development sector to a gain of 2.05 percent in the Transport sector. On the other hand, sector losses ranged from 0.15 percent in the Multi-Investment sector to a loss of 0.71 percent in the Energy & Utilities sector. Overall market breadth was also neutral with a slight negative bias, as 60 advancers and 61 decliners recorded an AD ratio of 0.98, the Financial Transaction House (FTH) said in its daily market commentary.
The petrochemical industry's index ended 0.42 percent higher while banking and telecoms indices shed 0.3 and 0.5 percent respectively.
Saudi Basic Industries Corp. ended 0.5 percent down at SR91.75 while its affiliate Yanbu National Petrochemical Company added 4.4 percent to SR43 and Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co. gained 3.2 percent to SR28.90.
Riyad Bank shares surged 2.48 percent to SR28.90.
The value of shares traded crossed over SR3 billion on Saturday.
The market seems to have hit a resistance level, finding it difficult to break above the level reached last Tuesday. With liquidity strongly declining, this could possibly be a warning sign that the market will be unable to make further advances, but more importantly, will not be able to hold the position it has currently reached, the FTH report said.
