Carl Crawford had four hits and scored three runs for the Rays, who— perhaps fittingly on horn night—blew a 5-2 lead in the eighth.

James Shields (6-6), making the first relief appearance of his 133-game career,  threw a scoreless 10th for Tampa Bay and was one of nine pitchers the Rays used in the 4-hour, 36-minute contest. Andy Sonnanstine got three outs for his first career save.

Sosa (1-2) walked four and was charged with four runs in two-thirds of an inning. Six Florida relievers combined to issue 11 walks.

Looking to feed off World Cup soccer buzz, the Marlins gave away plastic air horns to fans as they entered the stadium, the toy instruments creating a loud and never-ending soundtrack for the night.

Red Sox 5  Dodgers 4: At Boston, Dustin Pedroia singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning and the Red Sox overcame Manny Ramirez’s homer to get the win.

Boston improved to 7-1 on a nine-game homestand and will go for a three-game sweep Sunday night.

Ramirez homered in his second game back at Fenway Park against his former team, a sixth-inning solo shot off knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.

Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer and Kevin Youkilis had a solo shot for the Red Sox, who committed four errors. Wakefield made his 200th career start at Fenway,  tying Roger Clemens for the most in Red Sox history.

Twins 13  Phillies 10, 11 innings: At Philadelphia,  Joe Mauer hit a tying homer off Brad Lidgeto cap a five-run rally in the ninth inning and Delmon Young drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th, leading Minnesota over Philadelphia.

Each team hit a dramatic homer when it was down to its last out in a wild game that featured nine home runs and 29 hits.

Pinch-hitter Jim Thome cracked a two-run homer in the ninth off Phillies reliever Jose Contreras. Two outs later, Mauer’s two-run drive off Lidge tied it at 9.

Yankees 5  Mets 3: At New York,  Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson each hit a two-run homer, Phil Hughes became the American League’s second 10-game winner and the New York Yankees ended the Mets’ eight-game winning streak.

Hughes (10-1) gave up two early home runs to Jose Reyes, but the Yankees quickly came back against Mike Pelfrey (9-2) to snap a three-game skid.

Hughes went seven innings and tied Tampa Bay’s David Price for the AL lead in wins. Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless eighth and Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save in 17 chances.

Pirates 6  Indians 4: At Pittsburgh,  Lastings Milledge drove in four runs, Andrew McCutchenscored four times and Pittsburgh avoided matching its longest single-season losing streak in 120 years, ending a 12-game slide.

McCutchen reached base five times with a triple, single and three walks. Pedro Alvarezdrove in a key run with his first career hit, a double, as the Pirates opened a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning of the rain-delayed game.

Milledge singled in a run off David Huff(2-9) in the first and tripled in two more in the third.

Angels 12 Cubs 0: At Chicago,  Howie Kendrick hit a leadoff homer to start a big day for Los Angeles’ offense and Jered Weaverpitched seven stellar innings in a rout of struggling Chicago.

Juan Rivera cracked a three-run double to cap a four-run first against Ted Lilly (2-6), who took a no-hitter into the ninth inning of his previous start.

Torii Hunter added a two-run homer and Kendrick drove in three runs for the Angels, who improved to an AL-best 18-6 since May 24 and earned their 12th victory in 14 road games. Bobby Abreu had four hits.

White Sox 1 Nationals 0: At Washington,  Jake Peavy pitched a three-hitter  for his fourth career shutout and Chicago beat Washington for its season-high fifth straight victory.

Peavy (6-5), whose scheduled start Thursday was pushed back two days because of an achy right shoulder, walked two and struck out seven as the White Sox moved within a game of .500 (33-34) for the first time since April 14, when they were 4-5.

The right-hander, who is 6-1 in his last seven starts against NL clubs, retired 20 Nationals in a row after Roger Bernadina’s econd-inning single.

Blue Jays 3  Giants 0: At Toronto, Aaron Hill hit a two-run homer to snap a scoreless tie in the eighth inning and Toronto beat San Francisco.

Hill connected off Matt Cain with  two outs for his 10th home run this season. The Blue Jays lead the majors with 105.

Alex Gonzalez added an RBI single to make it 3-0.

Shawn Camp(2-1) pitched one inning of relief for the win and Kevin Gregg closed it out for his 18th save in 21 chances.

Braves 5 Royals 4: At Atlanta,  Troy Glaus hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and Atlanta beat Kansas City for its fourth straight victory.

Brian McCann also homered for the Braves, who have won 13 of 14 at home to improve to 23-7 at Turner Field. Atlanta moved 1 1/2 games ahead of the second-place New York Mets in the NL East.

Glaus’ 14th homer came off Robinson Tejeda (2-3). Billy Wagner(5-0) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win.

Rangers 5  Astros 1: At Houston,  Colby Lewis pitched a two-hitter for his first complete game, rookie Justin Smoak homered for the second straight day and Texas downed Houston to extend its season-best winning streak to seven.

Lewis (7-4) didn’t allow a baserunner until Hunter Pence’s infield single with one out in the fifth inning. The right-hander struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Cardinals 4  Athletics 3: At St. Louis,  Adam Wainwright threw eight sharp innings and Jason Mottestruck out Adam Rosales with the potential tying run in scoring position, preserving St. Louis’ victory over Oakland.

Ryan Franklin started the ninth but left after Ryan Sweeney’s RBI single got the A’s within two. Motte struck out Kevin Kouzmanoff and got Mark Ellisto fly out before Gabe Grosssingled in a run.

With runners on first and second, Rosales swung and missed for strike three, giving Motte his second save.

Diamondbacks 6 Tigers 5: At Detroit,  Edwin Jackson pitched into the eighth inning against his former team and Arizona snapped a franchise-record 14-game road losing streak by beating Detroit.

Magglio Ordonez hit an RBI double in the ninth to trim the Diamondbacks’ lead to one but Aaron Heilmanstruck out Miguel Cabrerafor his first save, ending the Tigers’ seven-game winning streak.

Mark Reynolds and Miguel Montero homered for Arizona, which earned its first road win since May 17 at Florida.

Mariners 5  Reds 1: At Seattle,  Felix Hernandez threw a five-hitter and Michael Saunders hit a three-run homer to lead Seattle to the victory.

Hernandez (5-5) struck out nine and walked one in his second complete game of the season and ninth of his career. The Mariners beat the Reds 1-0 on Friday night on a six-hitter by Cliff Lee.

Cincinnati lost for the fifth time in six games and dropped 1 1/2 games behind first-place St. Louis in the NL Central.

Rob Johnson hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly off Sam LeCure(1-4) before Saunders connected to make it 5-1 in the sixth.

Orioles 5  Padres 4: At San Diego,  Adam Jones hit a two-run homer that gave Kevin Millwoodhis first victory of the season as Baltimore held on for the win.
 
Millwood (1-8) lost his first eight decisions of the season, the longest skid of his career. He dropped each of his previous four starts for the Orioles, who at 19-49 have the worst record in the major leagues.

Jones, who graduated from San Diego’s Morse High, gave the Orioles a 5-3 lead with his sixth-inning homer off Clayton Richard (4-4).

Millwood gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings. Alfredo Simon allowed a run in the ninth before finishing for his seventh save in eight chances.
 
National League

Rockies 8 Brewers 7: At Denver,  what started as another low-scoring affair for two scuffling offenses turned into a wild slugfest with Seth Smith leading Colorado to the victory.

The Rockies were down by three entering the seventh but scored seven times over the next two innings to take an 8-4 lead into the ninth that Corey Hart trimmed to one with a single swing, his 18th homer coming off Manny Corpas with two outs.

Left-hander Franklin Morales was brought in to face Prince Fielder, who walked  on four pitches. In came right-hander Rafael Betancourt to face Ryan Braun, who doubled to right-center, putting runners at second and third for Casey McGehee, who was intentionally walked.

Betancourt  then retired rookie Jonathan Lucroy, who had three hits, for his first save of the season.
