“There are 723 students in the adult educational level and literacy program, 962 students doing their secondary intermediate courses, 1,214 in the high school level and 153 female students,” said Capt. Abdullah Al-Azzaz, spokesman for the Directorate General of Prisons.

“All of them are writing their final examinations inside prisons across the Kingdom,” he added.

Prisoners who are taking exams are under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education.

Students who pass their exams receive graduation certificates issued by the Ministry of Education unlike students who graduate from normal schools.

“We try to take the utmost care in providing the appropriate atmosphere for these students to take their final exams.  All required needs have been met at all the prisons,” he said. “Exams and studying are part of the general program to rehabilitate the prisoners,” the spokesman added.
