- JEDDAH: A senior official at the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) on Monday denied reports in the electronic media that four foreign workers of the company, three Sri Lankans and a Pakistani, were detained by a number of citizens in the southern city of Mahail after failing to repair a fault that led to power cuts.
The reports said the workers were only released after the mediation of a tribal chief.
“There is no truth to these reports. We never had any of our employees detained in the southern region or anywhere else,” said Mansour bin Abdul Rahman Al-Qahtani, director of the southern sector for distribution and customer services at SEC .
Al-Qahtani asked the media to ascertain their facts from genuine sources before publishing them and said the electronic media must be controlled and tightly monitored.
He said there were no frequent power cuts in the southern region during the Eid Al-Fitr and that most of the few outages that took place were caused by bad weather conditions. “The power outage happen when floodwaters wash away cables and when drivers run into electric posts,” he said.
