The Maharashtra ATS told the Uttar Pradesh ATS that the two alleged terrorists had plans to hit important government and industrial installations and also places where players participating in the Commonwealth Games were to stay. They wanted to create panic and disturbances during the games in New Delhi.

On being informed by the Maharashtra ATS, a team of ATS officials has gone to Mumbai to interrogate the two accused.

Police sources said that there were several terrorist sleeper cells in Uttar Pradesh particularly in Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra, Lucknow and Bareilly. But these cells are not known to the UP ATS or the state police as the intelligence gathering in the UP police is extremely poor compared to Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Muslims in Mumbai and Pune have expressed doubts over the arrest of the alleged LeT operatives, especially after the statement of senior state BJP leader Eknath Khadse who said last week it was doubtful whether the two arrested were LeT operatives and had a role in the German Bakery blast in Pune. Khadse had also said that those arrested earlier were released by courts due to lack of evidence.

Khadse's indication was clear that the latest arrest of the two Muslim youths may see the same fate as of those arrested earlier and may end in the acquittal of the two.

The home minister had told the media a week earlier that they would get to know about the bakery blast accused on Tuesday and it was exactly on Tuesday that the two youths were arrested. It means Home Minister R.R. Patil knew of the police strategy and about the accused much earlier, said a Muslim leader.

Imtiaz Patel, a Muslim businessman from Andheri said the Muslim community denounces terrorism and that those involved in terrorism should not be pardoned. However, the police should not arrest innocent people without concrete evidence and ruin their lives.
