Nilesh, president of Swabiman Transport Organization (STO), an outfit of the Congress party, is alleged to have hatched a conspiracy in the murderous assault and firing on his organization's vice president Chintu Shaikh three days ago.

Defending his son, Rane had alleged that the Sena itself was behind the attack and was trying to defame the Rane family. "The Sena is a party without leaders, and that's why they have asked a lady legislator Dr. Neelam Gorhe, from Pune, to lead them," Rane stated.

Though the initial police inquiry has given a clean chit to Nilesh, the opposition Sena-BJP alliance is not willing to accept the police theory.

The Sena delegation consisting of members of Parliament Sanjay Raut, Bharat Kumar Raut, legislator and deputy leader of the Sena in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe, legislator Ramdas Kadam, senior Sena leaders Diwakar Raote and Anil Parab, handed a petition to the Chavan.

In the petition, the Sena demanded that the police should register a case under attempt to murder read with section 307 of the Indian penal code against Rane and his goons. They questioned as to why Nilesh and his goons who attacked Shaikh were not being arrested despite a cognizable offense being registered against them.

Sanjay Raut alleged that because the father of the accused is a powerful Congress minister and also also involved in the case, Nilesh was roaming free, trying to destroy evidence and threatening the witnesses.

On the claims made by the police and Rane that the medical report of Shaikh dismisses the allegation that Shaikh had sustained bullet injuries, the Sena in the petition stated that Hiranandani hospital, where Shaikh had under gone medical checkup, is owned by renowned builder Hiranandani. He has many land litigations in the Revenue Ministry headed by Rane. It questioned as to how the police had accepted the clean chit given by a private hospital.

Criticizing the police, Raut told the chief minister "Maharashtra is now becoming another Bihar. Till now we were only hearing the stories about the terror unleashed by ministers and their family members in Bihar. But now we are witnessing incidents like that of Bihar taking place in Maharashtra.”
