The group, which has been set up by Mayor of Jeddah Hani Abu Ras, will specify those sections of the expressway and roads that will intersect with the railroad.

The task force is expected to meet in two weeks.

Muhammad Shakir Al-Dahlawi, director of the Department of Compensations at the Ministry of Transport, said that all plots of land and buildings that will be demolished for the railroad from Bahra to Rabigh have been determined.

“We’re evaluating their value to compensate owners. We will complete assessing the value within three months,” he added.

Al-Dahlawi said 126 plots of land and buildings will be demolished for the intersection at the Haj Terminal Bridge, 50 at the Al-Sulaimaniyah intersection and 45 at the Tahliah intersection.

The demolishing process for the train track started with the Haj Terminal Bridge late last year. A number of other bridges along the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway have been earmarked for demolition, including those bridges near Jeddah Airport, Briman, Tahliah Street, Palestine Road, King Abdullah Road and King Abdulaziz University.

The railway station in Jeddah will be overlooking the Haramain Expressway close to Al-Sulaimaniyah district but separated by the King Abdullah Road in the north.

The evaluation of about 900 properties in the area is expected be completed shortly.
