“The two OFWs were working as beauticians and sought the help of the Philippine Embassy but they were not entertained,” said John Leonard Monterona, Migrante Middle East coordinator, in an e-mail to Arab News.

The two runaway OFWs are Vicenta Muana and Zosima Monfrey.

“The beauticians ran away from their employers because they had not been paid their salaries for 14 months,” Muana said in his signed complaint sent to Migrante and community organization Kapatiran sa Gitnang Silangan.

He added that after escaping from their employer, they went to the Philippine Embassy’s shelter for abused workers.

“But they were not accepted for the reason that there was no endorsement from any of the embassy’s case officers,” Monterona added. He added that even if the two runaway OFWs had spoken to Labor Attaché Albert Q. Valenciano and Welfare Officer Nestor Burayag, still they would not have been accepted at the shelter while their case was being resolved.

“This is clear case of disservice which is condemnable,” Monterona said.
