The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3s is an Internet companion that makes a great fashion statement, too! This netbook runs on the new Intel Atom N470 or N450 processor and is available in black, white or a “spring flowers” cover pattern to suit your individual style. The S10-3s offers a comfortable typing experience, with its 98 percent full-size island-style keyboard, made up of individually-spaced, rounded keys. Users can get on the web even faster with Quick Start on the S10-3s, which enables access to a range of applications, multimedia files, and Web browsing without booting to the Windows desktop operating system. The S10-3s comes with DirectShare that allows users to instantly sync their files wirelessly with any other type and brand of computer, without connecting to the web. The netbook also features Lenovo’s Active Protection System (APS) which detects sudden changes in motion and temporarily stops the hard drive to help protect data from some crashes that could occur due to everyday notebook accidents. Like all third generation Lenovo netbooks, users can choose from a suite of wireless options including 802.11b/g/n, WWAN, 3G and Bluetooth.

n There are gray market Nokia handsets lurking at retailers all over the Kingdom and the mobile manufacturer wants to protect Saudi consumers from purchasing such devices. Only authorized local retailers can sell Nokia handsets with a Nokia-backed Saudi warranty. To use Nokia’s  SMS Warranty Validation, consumers should send the IMEI code of the device to the following numbers — STC 815677, Mobily 624342 and ZAIN 712226. The IMEI code will be cross checked to see if the device is covered under warranty in Saudi Arabia or not. If so, a return SMS will confirm warranty coverage.

The Apple Peel 520 from Chinese developer Yosion functions as a protective skin that once the proper software is installed, adds mobile voice and text messaging capabilities to Apple’s iPod Touch. This technology represents a more affordable alternative to purchasing Apple’s pricier iPhone. The Apple Peel 520 slips over the iPod Touch’s case and includes a battery and dock connector and requires a SIM card to make calls. When fully charged, the Apple Peel’s 800mAh battery offers nearly five hours of talk time and 120 hours of standby use.

Hitachi GST has just introduced a new family of 750 GB mobile hard drives. The Travelstar 5K750 and the Travelstar 7K750 are 5,400 RPM and 7,200 RPM, 2.5-inch hard drives, respectively. The new drives feature “Advanced Format” and have the industry’s highest capacities in a standard 9.5mm two-disk design. Advanced Format increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes. This helps utilize the storage surface area more efficiently, allowing for increased drive capacities and improved data integrity at higher storage densities. Of particular interest is that the Travelstar 7K750 is a self-encrypting drive (SED). While the hard drives will be available shortly for volume purchases, later in the year Hitachi will be producing available warrantied Retail Hard Drive Kits designed for Mac and PC users who want to replace or upgrade the internal hard drives in their notebooks or compact desktop systems.

Skype has released Skype for Android, a client for mobile handsets, built for smartphones running Android OS version 2.1 or above. Download it from Android Market. Skype for Android has been successfully tested on the HTC Desire, HTC Legend, Google Nexus One, Motorola Milestone XT720 and Motorola Milestone. Skype stated that it is currently addressing some issues with its Android client on the Samsung Galaxy S and doesn’t guarantee its performance on Android handsets not mentioned.
