- MANAMA: Rasheed Mohammed Al-Maraj, governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) during a meeting with the CEOs of the retail banks stressed the importance for banks to provide support to all their clients by maintaining the continuity of the provision of loans for all economic activities.
Al-Maraj said such approach would help in consolidating the efforts of public and private sectors in developing the economy and stimulating economic activity.
The meeting held on Sunday discussed the retail banks' domestic lending and how best to meet the credit needs of businesses and individuals in Bahrain. A variety of measures were reviewed to encourage greater bank lending.
The governor praised the efforts of the retail banking sector and the flexibility in which they dealt with their clients during the past two years and their constant efforts to strengthen their financial positions and banking transactions in line with the needs of the local economy.
The meeting was also attended by Khalid Hamad, executive director, banking supervision and Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al-Khalifa, executive director of banking.
