"It's not gonna be MI 2, MI 3, MI 4, but it's gonna be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol ... that will be the title of this film," he said.

"One of the things that I always wanted with the franchise was for it to not have a number afterwards, because I haven't made sequels of films, and I never really thought of these films as sequels," Cruise said. "When you see each one of them, I think it's distinctive of each filmmaker who has worked on the series. It's a series that I love doing," the US actor said.

Paramount Pictures said the movie would also be filmed in Moscow, Prague and Vancouver.

"It's a city I've always wanted to shoot in. The geography is important for these kinds of pictures" Cruise added.

The film's director, Brad Bird, said he was satisfied with filming in Dubai. Executive producer Jeffrey Chernov, producer Bryan Burk, actor Jeremy Renner and actress Paula Patton were also at the news conference.

The director, actors and producers did not reveal how long the shooting will be and where it would take place.

But Burk did say: "We will be shooting in the building you are all sitting in right now," referring to Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower at 828 meters, where the news conference was held.

Paramount Pictures will make "Mission Impossible IV," bringing back 48 year-old Cruise after he was fired by the studio in 2006 and publicly criticized by Sumner Redstone chairman of parent Viacom Inc.

The first three "Mission Impossible" movies have grossed $2 billion worldwide, Paramount said in a statement. The fourth film, whose actors include Jeremy Renner from "The Hurt Locker" and "Slumdog Millionaire" star Anil Kapoor, will be released in December 2011.
