The book, penned by Jasim M. Al-Ansari, is the first of its kind in the region that speaks about angling in the region, variety of catches in the Arabian Gulf, and their history and properties.

The book entitled “Fishing-Marine Environment, Techniques and Specialization” recently hit the stands and has been well received. It is published by Dar Al-Youm (Al-Youm Publications) and focuses on the various kinds of catches in the Arabian Gulf, different techniques adopted for fishing and the pros and cons of each technique.

He has also discussed in detail the rods and baits used in each technique, the kind of baits needed for different kinds of fishing and the hazards of high-sea fishing. The book also correlates to the marine environment and its impact on the catches in the Gulf waters. The book emphasizes the needs to protect the marine environment to sustain the fish industry.

An interesting part of the book is the gourmet section, in which he details the kinds of fish that are suitable to each palate.

He has also traced a brief history of fishing culture in the Eastern Province and how with the passage of time, new technologies have changed the face of fishing. A glossary of fish with their Arabic and English names and kind of baits and fishing rods needed is informative for those with a passion for fishing.

Al-Ansari is among the architects of the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu. He is currently on the board of several corporate including Mohammad Al-Mojil Group where he is the vice chairman of the board of directors.
