AMU occupies an important place among education institutions of India and the alumni of AMU gather every year around the globe to celebrate Sir Syed Day.

Rector of Jamiat ul Hidaya Jaipur Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and member of the AMU Court, was the chief guest. Guests of honor were Shakeel Ahmed, consul at the Indian Consulate General in Jeddah, and senior Aligs Abdul Mannan, Tasneem Ahmed and Javed Anwar.

The evening was marked by speeches on the mission of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and a play on the role of Aligarians in today's world.

In his soul-searching speech, Mujaddidi emphasized that Sir Syed’s mission was successful in establishing a university that produced scholars like Sir Viqar ul Mulk, Sir Ziauddin, Sir Rass Mood and millions of others. He said AMU should be able to produce students who qualify in such prestigious competitions as the Indian Administrative Service examination in big numbers and thus contribute to the nation’s progress.

Other speakers shared his thoughts. Farzan Rizvi highlighted the life and mission of Sir Syed. Naseem Akhter said Sir Syed’s ideas as a solution for the ailing Muslim society.

Shakeel Ahmed congratulated the AMU fraternity on AMU alumnus Annu Raj Singh’s winning gold in shooting in the Commonwealth Games and on the opening of two AMU centers in Murshidabad and Malappuram. Anjum Iqbal expressed his emotions in a beautiful poem.

The highlight of the evening was a play that brought out the interplay between conscience and lifestyle. The play was set in a courtroom with a case filed by the Muslims of India against Aligarians in Jeddah. Khuraam Ilyas, Imran Ahmed and Atique Ansari underlined a serious message with a sense of humor.

Asim Zeeshan and Mobin Khan hosted the program. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Shamsi. The AMU taraana (university anthem) warmed the hearts of Aligarians and took them down memory lane to their alma mater.
