“Police are still receiving tip-off calls on its toll free number (642-5550) from people noticing criminal and suspicious activities in their areas. Police task forces set up multiple checkpoints in these areas and various other places across the city,” Jeddah police spokesman Col. Misfer Al-Juaid told Arab News.

The majority of this week’s arrests occurred in the Kilo 14, Al-Jamea, Ghulail, Aziziyah and Anakish districts. Al-Juaid said some of the crimes people were arrested in connection with included drug and alcohol dealing, vehicular theft, fraud, unlicensed business operations and harboring illegal immigrants.

“There were 24 arrested and convicted people in this week’s raids. They are in police custody and they will be handed — along with any items seized as evidence during the raid — to concerned authorities,” said Al-Juaid. Jeddah Police Director Maj. Gen. Ali Muhammad Al-Ghamdi said there has to be cooperation between all authorities in order to eradicate unwanted activities from residential areas.

He added: “We are on the verge of this year’s Haj season and we hope for cooperation from citizens and residents.”
