Muhammad Abdul Mateen Osmani, director of Al-Islam Group, said his organization has mobilized worldwide support for the humanitarian project through its www.qurbaniforall.org website.

He said philanthropists in a number of countries have welcomed the initiative and are offering support.

“In several poverty-stricken parts of India, such as Bihar and Orissa, having a meal with meat is considered a luxury. Last year, we brought immense joy to Muslims in these areas by providing them this luxury during Eid Al-Adha,” Osmani said.

In Assam, the sacrificial meat was cooked and distributed to prisoners in various prisons across the state, he added.

Al-Islam Group has been carrying out this community service for more than a decade, Osmani said, adding that it has won the applause of not only the beneficiaries but the benefactors as well.

"We have been previously focusing on India, but from last year onward, we have expanded our services to Pakistan and Bangladesh with the help of NGOs and Islamic organiations there," Osmani said.

Udhiyah, or Qurbani, is an Islamic practice in which the affluent share with the less fortunate. "The aim of this sacrificial meat project is to assist as many Muslims as possible to perform this noble duty," Osmani said.

On the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, wealthy Muslims all over the world sacrifice animals in commemoration of the Prophet Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail (may God be pleased with him) in submission to the will of God Almighty.

Osmani said well-structured networks are in place to distribute sacrificail meat among the economically backward areas in the three countries. In India, the meat will be distributed in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Assam , Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
