In addition to extending its highly successful exhibit, ‘Self-Portraits: Mirrors on the Wall,’ Athr Gallery is offering a series of lectures on Modernism by Peter Higginson of Christie’s Education. Currently the course tutor on Christie’s Masters program, ‘Art, Style and Design: Renaissance to Modernism,’ and a contributing lecturer on the Masters program ‘Modern and Contemporary Art: Approaches, Methods, Practices,’ Higginson has been lecturing at Christie’s Education for the past 7 years. He held teaching positions and lectured in some of the most prestigious institutions in the UK and abroad, such as The Winchester School of Art, Sotheby’s Institute, SOAS and the National Gallery.  The lectures will start on Saturday Dec.4 at Athr Gallery. Ayyam Gallery Beirut is showcasing the “Masks, Kings and Other Things Revisited,” exhibition of Palestinian painter Oussama Diab. Featuring a rousing collection of work, this upcoming exhibition will highlight the rising artist as he offers new takes on his accomplished painting style.  Recently represented at Art Dubai and the first-ever MENSART Fair in Lebanon, Diab has received noteworthy reviews in Timeout Dubai, The National and Forward Magazine over the past year, further establishing his profile as one of the region’s most exciting new talents. Diab’s latest canvases continue earlier explorations in which objects and figures become affecting signifiers and the personal mixes with the political, delving deeper into the imaginary as he explores the duality of mankind in the modern world.
 


In his most daring, revealing and controversial exhibition at the Lahd Gallery, Saudi visual artist Abdulaziz Al Qahtani deconstructs the never revealed taboos in Middle Eastern society. He critically examines the intimate relationship between Middle Eastern women and Western societies, and exposes their very private lives and daily interactions with the outside world. ‘An Intimate Geography,’ is a satirical critique of the modern Middle Eastern society. It exposes the stark dangers of taboos categorization and dichotomy and how they can lead us away from out true human selves. Through his captivating visuals, Al Qahtani shows us why taboos may in fact be the only way for us to rediscover our true human nature.
