GM
General Motors (GM) announced a 28 percent growth in Saudi sales compared to October 2009 at an event to mark the Suburban’s 75 years of production — the industry’s longest running model — and reveal the winner of Chevrolet’s competition to find Saudi’s oldest Suburban. The proud owner of the winning 1968 Suburban, Mohamed Mohamed Ali Saeed of Jeddah, was awarded with a special 2010 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition Chevrolet Suburban by John Stadwick, president and managing director of GM Middle East Operations. Saeed said: “My 1968 Suburban is like a member of my family and I’m extremely proud to have its longstanding loyalty recognized through this competition. I’m frequently stopped by people who want to buy it. I’ve always taken care of it and still use it for long distance travel, often driving from Jeddah to Tabuk, a journey of over 1,000 km.” Stadwick and GM representatives hosted dealers and media at the event, held at the Hilton Hotel, and took the opportunity to provide a business update on GM’s strong sales performance in the Kingdom and the role the Suburban has played in GM’s success over the years in Saudi Arabia. “Times have changed, but the Suburban remains a fixture in the industry for customers who need maximum passenger and cargo space. The Suburban’s core capabilities and dependability have remained constant for more than seven decades,” said Stadwick. “It gives me great pleasure to award Mohamed Mohamed Ali Saeed with a special 2010 75th Diamond Edition Suburban.” The Diamond Edition arrived in September 2010, only a limited number of 250 vehicles were allocated to the region and these quickly sold out.
