This was one of the solutions presented by Mairaj-uddin Ahmed, a member of the Indian Haj goodwill delegation, among the other measures to improve Haj arrangements. Ahmed, who is also a member of the All India Congress Committee, was speaking at a reception hosted by AMU Old Boys Association in Jeddah.

Some of the recommendations include pilgrims being given the complete schedule from start to finish, such as their accommodation, trip itineraries for Makkah and Madinah and transportation arrangements. Dedicated medical services for aged Haj pilgrims and organized transport arrangements for pilgrims staying at a distance from the Haram are the other issues being looked into, Ahmed said.

“We are preparing a detailed report for the prime minister with our recommendations,” he added.

While talking about the condition of Indian Muslims, Ahmed, an AMU alumni and member of the AMU Court, said, a Sir Syed is needed in every town of India in order to attain emancipation through education.

“Education is a must for the progress and development of the Muslim community,” he said.

He said the Sachchar Committee report has recommended economic and educational uplift of the Muslim community, and, “we in Congress are trying to get it implemented.”

Farzan Rizvi welcomed the guest. Wazeer Akhter, who spoke about the educational contributions of Ahmed. Anjum Iqbal and Siraj entertained the crowd with their ghazals and songs. Asim Zeeshan hosted the function and Hasan Arabi delivered the vote of thanks.
