- SANAA, Yemen: A Yemeni court has convicted 12 men of belonging to Al-Qaeda, planning terrorist attacks and trying to take up arms in Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq.
- It has sentenced them to prison terms ranging from four to seven years.
Security officials also say that an appeals court on Saturday upheld prison sentences ranging from seven to 10 years for four people convicted of being Al-Qaeda members.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief the media.
Yemen’s government has been struggling with a growing Al-Qaeda threat from militants who are increasing their operations in the impoverished and largely lawless country on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.
