“The woman in question, a Somalian overstayer, had been working for the victim’s family in the district for a long time. She had been able to win their trust and it was when the family was out that she decided to steal the jewelry that was in a suitcase,” said Col. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police.

When the victims arrived home and realized that the jewelry was missing, they contacted police and reported the items stolen. Police launched a search and arrested the woman. “She denied stealing the suitcase at first. However, when confronted with the evidence, she admitted to the theft,” said Al-Juaid, adding that the woman is currently being held at Sharafiyah Police Station.

Meanwhile, two men in their 20s were arrested in Jeddah’s Al-Samer district for stealing a cement mixer worth SR5,000 from a Pakistani construction worker. The two men — a Syrian and a Pakistani — stole the machine while the construction worker was not there. “They were caught by police who were notified by the victim. Both men are being held at a police station in Al-Samer while investigations continue,” said Al-Juaid.
