JEDDAH: A Pakistani navy ship, PNS Babur, will arrive at Dammam port on a goodwill visit on Jan. 1. The ship, named after Zaheeruddin Muhammad Babur, the founder of the Moghul dynasty, will remain at the port until Jan. 5. PNS Babur was commissioned on Sept. 30, 1993. The ship has undergone major modifications and has been equipped with state-of-the-art combat management systems, torpedoes and missiles. It can also operate an organic helicopter. Capt. Azhar Naeem is the ship’s commanding officer. He will meet different dignitaries of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF). The ship’s visiting crew will also visit different RSNF institutions. PNS Babur will also hold a naval exercise with an RSNF ship on Jan. 5. The ship will be open to visitors from Jan. 2 to Jan. 4 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.RIYADH: Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja will open a Saudi painting exhibition at the King Fahd Cultural Center here on Monday. The 10-day show aims at encouraging Saudi artists. More than 170 paintings by 79 artists will be on display. The paintings were picked from 183 works of art.NAJRAN: Border guards have foiled an attempt to smuggle 187.43 kg of hashish and 122 kg of Qat, Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Shahri, acting commander of the border guards in Najran, told the Saudi Press Agency. Police arrested eight smugglers, and seized a gun, live ammunition, bankcards, bank checks, mobile phones and SIM cards from them.JEDDAH: The total value of camels displayed at the Um Raqeeba festival reached SR1.5 billion, according to Sultan Al-Rasheed, the festival’s chief organizer. He said price of a single camel ranged between SR300,000 and SR400,000. More than 2,700 camels known for their beauty are on display at the festival.
