- PARIS: An official says that an armed man is holding two employees hostage at a women’s center in the eastern French city of Mulhouse.
A special police intervention squad has been called to the scene of the center that houses women in need.
Helene Courcoul, the top aid to the prefecture, or state representative, of the Haut-Rhin region, said an armed man took one male and one female employee of the center hostage around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. She said it was not immediately clear whether his gun was real or fake.
She says the man is demanding to speak with his former companion.
The hostage-taking comes a day after a 17-year-old armed with two knives held a class of pre-schoolers hostage in Besancon, another city in eastern France. All were freed without injury some four hours later.
