Ohoud Al-Brahim, the department’s supervisor, said many of these cases where solved directly or through a concerned body or legal counseling.

The department, said Al-Brahim, offers people who file cases a safe and comfortable environment, and a children’s crèche to allow mothers to relax and present their complaints properly. He added that the department is working hard to achieve the HRC’s goals — under the directives of its president, Bandar Al-Iban — in spreading a culture of human rights across society.

The majority of the cases, numbering 36, were filed by women seeking their right to Saudi nationality. This was followed by 32 cases of women wanting to work and a safe working environment, and 30 cases of women seeking protection from domestic violence and other abuse. The Riyadh branch also received 21 cases from female detainees and prisoners seeking their rights, 18 cases of people wanting the right to resort to the legal system, 17 cases for the right to social services, and 14 cases of people seeking protection from torture and abuse.
