RIYADH: Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja on Wednesday signed a contract worth SR119.96 million to establish television and radio production centers in Arar, Al-Jouf, Najran and Baha. The project will be completed within 24 months. He signed another contract valued at SR25.85 million to modernize the studio of the television center in Riyadh.


RIYADH: A Saudi youth has invented a device to prevent talking on mobile while driving. Signals sent from the device will reduce acceleration, forcing the driver either to park the car or stop talking on his cell phone. Asaad bin Mutlak Al-Shammary, 26, said he invented the device to prevent accidents caused by cell phones.
 

MAKKAH: Adel Al-Shaddi, secretary-general of the International Organization to Introduce the Prophet (peace be upon him), has condemned Saturday’s terrorist attack in Stockholm. “Such acts will serve only the proponents of the clash of civilizations,” he said, adding that Sweden had denounced the publication of cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad.
 

JEDDAH: Jeddah Mayor Hani Aburas has urged the public to cooperate with the municipality’s awareness campaign to enlighten the public against throwing garbage on roads and streets. He said the campaigns were aimed at keeping Jeddah clean and tidy. Violators of the rule would be fined SR150. About 19,240 violations have been recorded since the beginning of the campaign.
