- CENTURION, South Africa: South Africa captain Graeme Smith has opted to bowl first against India on the fast bowler-friendly SuperSport Park pitch on a rain-affected first day of the opening test.
Smith has backed his aggressive pace attack in conditions made more difficult for batsmen on Thursday by heavy overnight rain, which caused a four-and-a-half-hour delay to the series-opener at Centurion.
Umpires said play would start at 3 p.m. (1300 GMT) and continue until 6:30 p.m, with 48 overs to be bowled.
India has handed a test debut to 19-year-old left-arm medium pacer Jaidev Unadkat, after Zaheer Khan was ruled out with a groin injury.
South Africa has opted for Lonwabo Tsotsobe as its third seamer alongside fast men Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel.
