Panasonic Corporation, an industry major in Full HD 3D and HD TV technology, launched the "world's first" 3D camcorder at a media event in Jeddah on Tuesday. The SDT750 camcorder allows anyone to create powerful, true-to-life 3D images by simply attaching a 3D conversion lens that comes with the camcorder. Even without the 3D conversion lens, this innovative camcorder offers many ways to take home video recording to a new level with a wide range of sophisticated features. Majd Majbour, executive managing director's assistant, Alesayi Electronics, said: "3D is the buzz word and is quickly becoming the most sought-after AV technology today. We have already launched 3D VIERA TV, a 3D Blu-ray player and 3D HDMI cables, and now with this 3D camcorder Panasonic is committed to making groundbreaking 3D technology widely available in Saudi Arabia." LG Electronics (LG) recently announced in Dubai a number of restructuring commitments as part of its ongoing transformation process to overcome the current challenges and accelerate future growth. The restructuring is aligned to three main priorities - to establish business unit-centered complete operating system to ensure speed and accuracy in decision-making, enhance development of advanced technology and reinforce new business organizations with a clear eye to the future and strengthen the company's business fundamentals by accelerating innovation. The Business Innovation Office will be established and overseen directly by Vice Chairman Bon-joon Koo. It will be responsible for elevation of various company core competencies including Six Sigma, services and procurement. CMO is disbanded while Global Marketing Division is renamed as Global Marketing Office to promote LG brand and strengthen subsidiaries' sales capability. To give more emphasis to individual products, the Business Solutions Company will be dissolved, with the monitor and solution business units transferring to Home Entertainment Company. In consideration of their business characteristics, Home Entertainment Company's digital storage business unit, Mobile Communications Company's PC business unit and Business Solution Company's car business unit will become independent units and report directly to the vice chairman. To strengthen its existing business and develop new capabilities, the Home Appliance Company will elevate its component business with the establishment of a compressor and motor business unit. A separate health care business team will drive growth in this category and a separate commercial water business team will be created to drive the water business forward. The Air Conditioning Company will take on the new name of Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Company that will take on future growth opportunities in the environment space such as solar and LED lighting.

The Toyota stand at the recent Riyadh International Motor Show (RIMS) in the capital was a big draw. Abdul Latif Jameel Co.'s (ALJ) Vice-President Faisal Abdalla launched the "largest ever" Toyota (Everyday Joy) display at the show. The exhibition was well attended by a large number of dignitaries, media representatives and ALJ's senior officials. The display, which featured an indoor and outdoor display as well as a test track, was designed by international companies specialized in organizing and designing global motor exhibitions. This year, ALJ-Toyota highlighted several special items to match the needs of Saudi customers. Toyota captured customers' hearts and minds by displaying its full range of 2011 model year vehicles including latest fashion accessories to suit local styles. The products ranged from family cars, youth products, as well as SUVs and Commercial vehicles. The company unveiled safety features through a smart display technology. In addition to showing the award winning global products, ALJ continued to connect with local youth by engaging them in socially and culturally relevant entertainment and arts activities. The company devoted a special part of the showcase for Toyota Racing programs and Toyota Racing cars, unveiling the main achievements of ALJ during the past 10 years in motorsport competitions across the Kingdom and abroad. The display also housed the Yaris Club, which included many competitive events for Yaris members. Shadi Hasan, MD, Flagship Projects, was speaking while receiving the UAE mobile application 'Hesabi - My Math' award at the inaugural edition of the World Summit Award Mobile Content held in Abu Dhabi recently. Hasan said the UAE and Middle East had given a huge push to the popularity of the mobile Apps in the Arab world but the greater credit goes to those creative developers who are defying the entire world by creating every day creative apps hailed by global mobile apps players. He added: "Etisalat and Du are paving the way for a world in which mobile apps will be on par with cyberspace popularity by 2020." Hesabi has been developed by Flagship Projects, a major developer of mobile applications in the UAE and the Middle East. Addressing a group of delegates from more than 100 countries including executive directors of UN agencies and private sector heads, Hasan said: "This international award is in recognition of the ideal creative environment presented by the UAE to ICT companies. Qatar Airways once again supported the UK-based Foreign Press Association's annual awards function in which the airline sponsored the main award of the night - Journalist of the Year. Qatar Airways, which sponsored the event for the third year running, hosted select media during the night, which attracted more than 400 guests, including ambassadors, politicians and business leaders to celebrate excellence in television, print, broadcast and web-based journalism. The awards night, now in its 11th year, was conducted by British television and radio personality Sandi Toksvig. Journalists in 13 categories were honored at the function, where Mayor Boris Johnson, a former journalist, spoke about issues ranging from new UK immigration rules, local politics and his pride at being in charge of London. Qatar Airways Vice-President Europe Paul Johannes presented the night's main award - Journalist of the Year - to two deserving winners, Antony Thomas and Saeed Kamali Dehghan, for their moving television feature documentary “For Neda”, made for HBO by Mentorn Productions. The documentary investigates the truth about a young Iranian woman, Neda, shot by a sniper, who became the symbol of mass protest against elections in Iran.
