The boy, identified only as 17-year-old Majed, allegedly sustained multiple injuries and bruises, said lawyer Moshari Al-Oyada. “Majed’s family also plans to seek compensation worth KD100,000 (SR1 million) for the inhuman treatment dished out to their son,” Al-Oyada told Dammam-based Al-Yaum daily.

The lawyer said that Majed was beaten up by a police intelligence officer and his colleagues at a police station in Kuwait.

Describing the incident as rare and strange, Al-Oyada said the affair gives the entire Kuwaiti police force a bad name.

“The teenager had been detained at a prison not meant for minors for more than 15 days without charge,” he added.

“They only charged him after Majed’s story appeared in daily newspapers. The officers then started leveling baseless charges against him recklessly. It was obvious that Majed was wrongly implicated in a case which had some 30 charges made earlier against an ‘unknown’ criminal.” He accused the intelligence official of ignoring basic procedures when making the arrest.

Meanwhile, Majed’s father urged the Kuwaiti authorities to bring the policemen to justice and hand them capital punishment.

He alleged that police authorities in Kuwait deliberately delayed sending Majed to medical authorities for his injuries.

The father said the theft charges against his son were fabricated. The intelligence official has denied the accusations against him.
