- JEDDAH: Teams of boy scouts have, under the supervision of the Jeddah District Centers, helped increase awareness about environment protection among 800 stores, distributed 4,000 awareness brochures in malls and car parks, and cleaned up some 3,700 square meters across Jeddah.
The scouts have carried out the work as part of a weeklong campaign — Partners in Environment Cleanliness — in conjunction with the Jeddah District Centers and Jeddah municipality. The scouts also honored 43 stores for their cooperation in keeping the environment clean.
Hassan bin Muhammad Al-Zahrani, secretary-general of the Jeddah District Centers, said the program aims to create awareness about the environment, especially among store owners and customers. He added that the organizers aim to see members of the public participate in the program.
Five scout supervisors, said Al-Zahrani, participated in the campaign along with one doctor and 50 scouts. Participants were introduced to the program in an introductory lecture that took place before the campaign, entitled Why Should we Protect the Environment?
Mamdouh Salah Tayeb, one of the scout supervisors, said the purpose is to protect the environment. “Participants are doing this because they feel a sense of responsibility toward the environment. We want to introduce the public to simple and correct environment protection techniques, which could start at home and in shop. The campaign has also helped participants develop new skills,” said Tayeb.
