- JEDDAH: Twenty-four prison guards will be trained on prisoner's rights under a program that enlists the Makkah-branch of the National Society for Human Rights to work with the Directorate General of Prisons, the NSHR announced on Tuesday.
The program will involve lectures and workshops by specialists. "The prison guards will also be trained on the rights of prisoners to cleanliness, reading, watching TV and following up what is going on outside the prison walls," the NSHR statement said while calling for thorough preparation of prisoners to rejoin society after they are released.
According to NSHR, the Directorate General of Prisons is endeavoring through a number of programs to promote the legal rights of prisoners within its efforts to upgrade its reformist role. The Directorate General of Prisons is also encouraging the establishment of more societies to care for and sponsor prisoners.
