The award — The Platinum Technology Award for Quality and Best Trade Name for the year 2010 — was given by the International Commission for the Management and Research Advisory (OMAC), a member of the US Management and Marketing Authority. It was received by KFIP’s director general, Hamoud Al-Saadi.

The prize was given to the port for observing and strictly executing its terms and conditions. It is annually granted to the management of seaports for their excellent management and operational quality.

Speaking to Arab News after receiving the award, Al-Saadi — who received the same award in 2008 and 2009 — said the prize was accorded to the seaport in appreciation of its operational, administrative, developmental and economic achievements.

KFIP this year handled 86 million tons of goods with an increase of seven percent over the previous year. It also received 1,667 tankers and ships with an increase of 3.7 percent over last year. During the past few years, the seaport began the execution of a number of projects that will increase stations from seven to nine and docks from 24 to 32.
