It is probably a room in a rented building similar, regrettably, to thousands of government buildings. The air conditioner opening through which the prisoners escaped, was not sufficiently protected.

The other point is that these escapees were drug traffickers in our country so their crime was the “mother” of all crimes. They were not under life imprisonment, nor were they serving long terms.

They were also not on death row despite the fact capital punishment is applied to drug dealers according to the laws of our country. They were just waiting to be deported to their homes.

Just imagine that one of them was caught with 10 kg of hashish worth millions of riyals and which was enough to get every rational person in this country stoned.

Let us be open and extremely transparent in this case, which is perilous to our country, our youth and future generations. Why are we no longer hearing about capital punishment for drug traffickers and smugglers as was the case in the past, especially as such sentences were supported by religious fatwas from the Supreme Council of Scholars?

Why do we complain about the quantities of drugs being smuggled into our country, which are then distributed among our innocent citizens?

Why are these criminals allowed to make millions of riyals while we are losing our young men and women and spending billions on their rehabilitation?

I know there are international pressures to stop applying capital punishment, which is described as brutal and inhuman, to drug traffickers, but it seems there is no way to avert the danger of drugs if we are not harsh enough in our punishments for these dealers, who do not kill one person only, but our entire society.

We should not have mercy on drug dealers or reduce their sentences.
