The housemaid surrendered to Taif police one month before her delivery. Police in turn handed the woman over to the Social Care Center Office, which took care of her before and after delivery.

The woman was two months pregnant when she arrived in Taif on a housemaid's visa to work with a Saudi family. She deliberately concealed her pregnancy. After one month, she started showing signs of pregnancy, fled from her sponsor and entered the black labor market to work illegally as a maid for other families.

In the meantime, the sponsor reported her as an absconding worker and turned in her iqama and passport. Heavily pregnant, she later turned herself in to authorities.

When the young woman had labor pains, she was taken to the maternity section of King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital in Taif where she gave birth to a baby girl.

Abdul Rahman Muaimina, Social Care Center Office, told Arab News that the best care and attention was given to the woman and he refuted  the allegations leveled against Saudi Arabia every now and then.

“The Kingdom is extending the best possible services to the expatriate community in the country, even in the cases of overstayers and violators of residency rules,” he said. “The (Sri Lankan) consul lauded the commendable services and care being rendered to the young woman and her baby."

The woman’s sponsor has been informed about the developments.
