In Uniondale, New York, Sidney Crosby's 25-game points streak was snapped as Pittsburgh's high-powered offense was held in check by New York, who took a shootout victory.

Islanders and goalie Rick DiPietro, who stopped the Pittsburgh captain and the rest of the Penguins' high-powered offense in a 2-1 shootout victory Wednesday night.

Crosby had at least a point in every game since Nov. 3.

The run, in which Crosby had 26 goals and 24 assists, was the longest in the NHL since 1992-93. Crosby also had scored a goal in five consecutive games before being shut down by the Islanders.

Crosby was also denied on Pittsburgh's second shootout attempt by goalie Rick DiPietro.

Josh Bailey gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead in the second period, but Chris Conner tied it before the frame was over.

P.A. Parenteau put the Islanders ahead in the shootout and DiPietro sealed the win by stopping Mark Letestu.

In Ottawa, Cam Ward made 37 saves for his second shutout of the season as Carolina beat Ottawa.

In Newark, New Jersey, New York handed struggling New Jersey its sixth straight loss, leaving the Devils winless since Jacques Lemaire took over as coach.

Henrik Lundqvist made a season-high 43 saves and defenseman Michal Rozsival scored the winner on a deflected second-period shot.
