The organization announced the pledge during an international conference of donors and investors in Kuwait recently.

Adnan Khalil Basha, the organization's secretary-general who attended the conference, said IIROSA, through its usual mechanisms and modalities of charity work, wished to promote these projects in the region.

He stressed the importance of the conference, which was attended by 675 people representing 42 countries, 30 regional and international organizations, 78 civil society bodies and  24 private establishments.

The nongovernmental organizations, which participated in the conference, announced their determination to establish a charity fund to finance welfare projects in the region with a capital of $100 million.

“Emanating from its humanitarian principles, IIROSA realizes the significance of serious work through cooperation and coordination with humanitarian organizations to develop such poor areas and upgrade the level of their residents to be able to confront the pending challenges,” Basha said.

He recalled the active presence of the organization in Sudan to contribute to meeting various needs of the Sudanese people. IIROSA has sponsored 2,100 orphans and has executed a number of urgent relief programs to help people displaced by war in the Darfur region of western Sudan.

Basha said IIROSA is running two refugee camps in Darfur: Al-Siraif Camp, which is accommodating 10,717 refugees in 1,895 tents, and Al-Salam Camp with 2,000 families living in 1,700 tents. Two wells were dug in these camps to provide potable water to the inhabitants.

Basha said the organization signed an agreement with the World Food Programme to annually provide Al-Siraif Camp with  5,534 tons of foodstuffs consisting of cereals, grains, cooking oil, salt, sugar and concentrated nutrients to the children.

Within its assistance to help the poor and needy people in the Sudan, IIROSA provided scholarships and financial aid to 29 students and established three scholarly institutes in southern Sudan — one each in Malakal, Wawu and Juba with a total of 3,947 male and female students. It has also established a health center in Al-Thawrah district in Omdurman, and two pharmacies in the city of Kasala in the east.

IIROSA has also executed other health programs in various parts of the Sudan, consisting of four waste disposal projects, five programs for the safety of patients in six hospitals and six programs to sponsor expecting mothers.
