People in Makkah province were out on Friday enjoying the pleasant weather after two days of rain. They were mostly unhappy at the sight of the streets with potholes and dirty water. At some places the sidewalks were also dented and damaged in the rain.

None of the experts contacted by Arab News was willing to make estimate the losses resulting from the two-day rains because an accurate assessment was impossible without learning the extent of damage to the ongoing projects of roads and infrastructure.

The municipality has deployed 15 field teams to clear the roads of uprooted trees, electric poles and road signs across the city. The authorities have also sent a huge fleet of tankers to pump out the stagnant waters in streets.

A large number of fumigating and spraying vehicles manned by 600 workers have also started visiting all neighborhoods in the city to spray insecticides that may spread various diseases in the wake of rains.
