“The man was arrested around 3 p.m. on Monday after trying to trick an undercover police officer to come to his home and give him some money,” said Col. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police.

The man, who has been living in the Kingdom illegally, is currently at a police station in north Jeddah pending investigations.

In another incident, a 26-year-old Egyptian national was arrested in Jeddah’s southern industrial city on suspicion of embezzling SR115,000 from an establishment owned by a 51-year-old Saudi.

“The suspect managed to transfer the money to his personal account and was planning to flee the country. We’re currently investigating the case,” said Al-Juaid, adding that the man is at Al-Muntazahat police station.

Two Egyptian construction workers were arrested in Jeddah’s Kilo 14 area on suspicion of stealing SR20,000 worth of wood from the site.

The two men were working at a construction site in the area.

The site’s owner reported the men missing along with the wood. The two men were taken to Al-Muntazahat police station pending further investigations.

“Owners of buildings that are still under construction should be alert and secure their property to prevent weak minded individuals from taking advantage or stealing their valuables,” said Al-Juaid.
