The Higher Committee for Protecting Homeland and Derailing Normalization with Israel was responding to Israeli reports that Arad paid a secret visit to Jordan on Tuesday and met with Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.

“We are surprised over Arad’s visit, which coincides with the enemy’s culminating intransigence and rejection of the two-state solution and pressures the Knesset to resolve the Palestinian issue at the expense of Jordan,” said a statement issued by the panel that represents more than 20 opposition parties and trade unions.

The committee referred to proposals by Israeli lawmakers considering Jordan as the homeland for the Palestinians.

“The trip also coincides with escalating settlement activity that seeks to Judaize Jerusalem and threatens to launch a fresh military offensive on the Gaza strip,” the statement said.

The committee urged the government to “stop all contacts with the enemy in the runup for severing ties and abrogating the peace pact,” which Jordan concluded with Israel in 1994.

The government has so far refrained from confirming or denying Arad’s visit, which, if correct, cames at a time when ties between Jordan and Israel are at a low ebb over the Jewish state’s failure to accept the two-state solution and the faltering direct talks with the Palestinians.
