- RIYADH: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) said on Monday that it will establish five more museums in five provinces as well as upgrade of existing ones.
SCTA Vice President Ali Al-Ghabban made the announcement while on a tour of Jazan's archaeological sites.
"We receive help from a number of specialized international teams and British and French universities in conducting studies on prehistoric sites in the Farasan Islands where two projects have been completed," he pointed out.
Al-Ghabban said arrangements will be made with the Jazan provincial governorate and the municipality of Sepea to build a fence around Ather City in addition to the launching of a special campaign to restore a number of antiquities held privately by locals.
He also invited Jazan residents to cooperate in the restoration of local museums. Jazan, which borders Yemen, boasts many archaeological sites that date back to pre-Islamic times.
