“One of the perpetrators was able to steal a SR3,125,000 check and cash it, while the other suspect was able to steal a SR324,000 check and transfer the amount to his account,” said Jeddah police spokesman Col. Misfer Al-Juaid.

Sharafiah police station received a call from the victim’s lawyer identifying the suspects involved in the scheme. A manhunt ensued.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old Yemeni was arrested downtown on suspicion of embezzling SR434,823 during his employment at a local hospital there.

In other crime-related news, a 21-year-old Saudi was arrested in Kandarah and charged with breaking into a local cell phone shop and stealing four mobile phones worth more than SR2,600. Police said the suspect’s fingerprints recovered from the shop led to the arrest.

Two men impersonating police officers have been arrested after attempting to force a couple in Khumrah into their vehicle, police said on Tuesday.

The incident, which took place on Dec. 9, was thwarted after the couple struggled with the two impersonators and escaped. Based on the description they gave, both suspects were arrested.

Police said that they also found a falsified marriage contract belonging to the two victims.
