Walid Alkhereiji, director general of the organization, said his organization also achieved a surplus of 2.59 million bags of flour in 2009. The organization's total sales in 2009 reached 2.17 million tons, he said adding that flour sales reached its peak during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the organization's annual report for 2009, it has 11 branches comprising grain silos and flourmills. Total capacity of grain silos reached 2.52 million metric tons.

The report estimated the total capacity of flourmills under the organization at 10,980 tons and 2,100 tons of fodder daily.

The organization's facilities in Riyadh, Wadi Al-Dawasser and Qassim accounted for 60 percent of its storage capacity while its nine flourmills in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khamis Mushayt supply 62 percent of flour.

Alkhereiji said there was an average 5.5 percent annual increase in the organization's flour sales.

Meanwhile, Alkhereiji told the Shoura Council on Wednesday his organization's efforts to develop its activities. He also explained the organization's long-term plans such as expansion of grain silos in Jeddah and Dammam to reach their capacity to 140,000 tons.

A new flourmill with a capacity of 600 tons will be established in Alkharj near Riyadh, the director general said. A grain silos with a capacity of 250,000 tons will be establish in Jamoom in the Makkah province.
