- WARSAW: Poland’s Labor Ministry says that unemployment jumped to 12.3 percent in December from the 11.7 percent the previous month.
The data released on Friday shows that 1.95 million people in the nation of 38 million were without a job at the end of 2010. That was almost 96,000 more jobless than at the end of November.
The unemployment rate in Poland typically rises during fall and winter, when there are fewer seasonal jobs in agriculture, forestry and construction.
The state’s statistical office is still to release its figures, but they rarely vary significantly from the ministry data.
