- LONDON: New car sales in Britain rose by 1.8 percent during 2010 as a surge in fleet sales offset a decline in private car registrations following the end of government-backed incentives.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said Friday that new car registrations rose 20 percent in the first half of the year, but fell by 14 percent in the second half.
The society’s chief executive, Paul Everitt, says he expects demand to improve in the second half of 2011.
